THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay resident has been charged with possession of child pornography following a weeks-long police investigation.

Aromal Kumari, 27, was arrested on Friday after an investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit, the force announced in a release.

The investigation was launched on Sept. 28 after the force became aware a local internet user was suspected of possessing child pornography.

Investigators determined the files were consistent with child pornography, and identified a local suspect and address.

Police executed a search warrant at a residential address in the zero-to-100 block of Johnson Avenue on Wednesday.

According to the police service, files located on seized electronic devices were “believed to be consistent with child pornography.”

Kumari faces one charge of possession of child pornography after being taken into custody Friday.

He appeared on bail court the same day and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
