Hundreds of Thunder Bay residents and politicians came together Thursday night to mourn the loss of Poland's most prominent leaders.

More than 300 people attended the evening mass at St. Casmir's Church to pay respects to the 97 people who died in a plane crash in Russia over the weekend. Nearly 50 per cent of the country's leadership were killed, including the President of Poland, First Lady, Military elite and prominent church members. There are 5,000 people of Polish ancestry currently living in Thunder Bay.

Members of the Canadian Polish Congress organized the memorial service to help local residents cope with the tragedy. Also in attendance were MPP Bill Mauro, Mayor Lynn Peterson and city councillor Joe Virderamo.
