National Team Development Center (NTDC) Thunder Bay athletes continue competing in red and white for Canada at Nordic ski events around the globe.

Cross Country Canada has named Katherine Stewart-Jones of NTDC Thunder Bay to the 5 woman team which will represent Canada in Lahti, Finland at the World Senior Championships. The Championships will be held from February 21st to March 5.

Stewart-Jones and teammates Julian Smith, Evan Palmer-Charrette, Lisle Compton and Annika Richardson have just finished competing at the World Jr/U23 Championships in Park City, Utah.

Racing against the best young Nordic skiers in the world, Stewart-Jones had top 30 finishes in all three of her events. Palmer-Charrette, in 26th   place, was the top Canadian in the U23 Men’s Skiathlon.  Compton was the top Canadian in the Junior Women’s 5km Skate.

On the other side of the world, at the PyeongChang, Korea World Cup, Sadie White and Bob Thompson raced hard on the challenging courses designed for the upcoming 2018 Olympics.  White earned her first World Cup points in the grueling Skiathlon, while Thompson missed qualifying for the Classic Sprint heats by just 0.01 seconds.

White and Thompson are now on their way to Europe, where they will be joined by teammates Sam Greer, Julian Smith, Angus Foster and three other athletes selected by Cross Country Ski Ontario to race in OPA Cup races in Germany and Austria, and Swiss Cup races in Switzerland.
