Local school tied for highest number COVID-19 cases in province

THUNDER BAY - Several schools in the Thunder Bay district are reporting multiple cases of COVID-19 among students and staff, with one school tied for the highest number of positive cases in the province recorded in the last two weeks.

According to the provincial government COVID-19 data tracking, McKellar Park Central Public School has reported 12 students testing positive for COVID-19, tying it with an Ottawa area school for the most infections in a school setting in the last two weeks.

Within the Lakehead Public School Board, there are three student cases at Kingsway Public School, two student cases at Valley Central Public School, and three student cases at Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

In the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Pope John Paul II has reported one student cases and St. Martin Elementary School has reported one student case and one staff case.

The Little Lions Waldorf Child and Family Centre at Claude E. Garton Public School has also reported one positive COVID-19 case in a staff member.

The Lakehead Public School Board did not provide comment on the positive cases in schools.
