THUNDER BAY - A longtime Board member with the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society has received some special honours.
Judy Decicco has been given the 2016 Ontario SPCA Chair’s Award and had a stuffed animal named in her honour.
Decicco has made a lifelong commitment to volunteering at the Humane Society.
The Chair’s Award is presented annually to a person who has gone above and beyond to contribute to Animal Welfare.
OSPCA officials said Decicco has impacted the lives of many animals in need, with an approach that has been mirrored in communities across the province.
In 2015, Decicco assisted in the transfer of over 75 dogs from the Whitefish Bay First Nation, to new homes in other parts of the province.
In recognition of her work, the organization has added a new plush toy to their "Rocky and Friends" collection.
The black dog named “Judy” is a replica of one of the puppies transferred from Whitefish Bay.
