A local woman who worked on behalf of the Conservative Party says she sent voters to the wrong polling stations across Canada during the last federal election.
Vivian Desgagnes worked for Responsive Marketing Group Inc. in Thunder Bay, calling voters on behalf of the Conservative Party.
At first calls were made to find out what party people were voting for and gather information.
But later on she had to read from a script, giving people polling information and even arranging rides.
But many of those people were being sent to the wrong place.
“They couldn’t understand why they were going to these places that were out of reach for them,” Desgagnes said.
After receiving complaints, Desgagnes said she told her supervisor.
She was told to give people the phone number for Elections Canada if they complained about receiving wrong information.
Because the locations were for stations across the country, Desgagnes said she didn’t know that they were the wrong locations.
Other times, she had to arrange rides for people to be taken to stations, but would receive calls later that no one had arrived to pick those people up.
“We had people saying our ride never showed up,” she said.
The allegations are the latest in the unfolding robo-call scandal where opposition parties are accusing the Conservatives of election fraud and voter suppression in the last federal election in as many as 27 ridings.
