TORONTO -- A local grandmother is planning to pay some bills – and treat herself a little bit – after winning $100,000 in the Crossword Tripler instant game.

Doreen Dowton of Thunder Bay said she initially thought she’d made a mistake when she matched all the words on her ticket.

"My husband checked it using the OLG App and told me I won $100,000! We were stunned! It felt unreal!" she said.

The recent retiree has been playing the game for nearly 30 years before winning the top prize, she said.

Dowton recently traveled to Toronto to pick up her winnings, giving her an excuse to visit a best friend she hadn’t seen since the pandemic began.

The winning ticket was purchased at J&W Confectionary on City Road in Thunder Bay.
