Low-risk exposure for COVID-19 after Walmart employee tests positive

An employee at Walmart on Memorial Avenue has tested positive for COVID-19 and customers who may have been in the store on April 23 or 26 should monitor for symptoms.

THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is investigating the potential for COVID-19 transmission after an employee at a local Walmart tests positive for the virus.

According to a release issued by the health unit on Friday, public health officials became aware of an employee at the Memorial Avenue Walmart who tested positive for COVID-19.

The health unit has determined customers in the store between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on April 23 and between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on April 26 may be at risk of contracting COVID-19.

The risk is deemed low, but anyone who may have been at Walmart during this time should monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms arise to contact the Thunder Bay District Health Unit at 807-625-5900.

The public is reminded to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by staying home as much as possible, washing hands often, avoid touching your face, covering your cough, clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces, and practice physical distancing.
