Lakehead Public Schools and Lakehead University have formalized an Achievement Program to not only raise money, but also encourage positive attitudes.

University President Brian Stevenson says it's aimed at opening its doors to students.

“It’s a first step, I think, in trying to eliminate the barriers to higher education that a lot of children have,” Stevenson said during an interview with CKPR Radio.

“The first thing that we have to do is make them understand that it is achievable, that the university is theirs, and then to help them get their by whatever means.”

The goal is to raise $10 million in 10 years through the program.
