THUNDER BAY -- Three associate professors from Lakehead University's School of Nursing have won Provincial Teaching Innovation Awards for their project involving masks.

The project Aesthetic Expression of Caring through Mask Making and Storytelling involved more than 200 Bachelor of Science in Nursing students.

While making the masks, students had to cover their partner's face, who was a complete stranger, with plastic wrap. The goal was to teach Nursing students about caring, by helping them understand themselves, others and the world they live in.

The Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing presented the awards to the LU School of Nursing's Associate Professors Michelle Spadoni, Patricia Sevean, and Karen Poole at a ceremony in Toronto Wednesday.
