Mac’s Convenience Stores management is adding extra security measures to all 19 of their Thunder Bay outlets in response to the number of recent robberies at the stores.

A release from Mac’s manager of security and loss prevention Sean Sportun states there will be mandatory retraining of all staff on safety and security protocols, the addition of a uniformed security patrol and a reduction of operating hours at several of the Thunder Bay locations.

There will also be advancements to their security systems and developing partnerships with local crime prevention organizations.

“We are confident these steps and all future steps Mac’s takes to enhance our security measures will maintain the high level of safety in our locations while preventing crime,” said Sportun in the release.

Mac’s will also be conducting Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design surveys as studies show the physical environment of a store location has an influence on offenders’ behaviour.
