Magnus prepares for final play of the season

A meet and greet with  the creative minds of Smarty Pants will follow the final performance on May 21.

THUNDER BAY – Magnus Theatre is preparing for the world premiere of its final show of the season to hit its stage Friday evening: Smarty Pants written by playwright Stephen Sparks.

Smarty Pants tells the tale of three lifelong friends, who scheme to retrieve a gift from Linda, the main heroine’s, ex-husband's cottage before things go quickly awry for the friends thanks to a pair of all-controlling smart underwear and a well-stocked wine cooler.

"This is one of the funniest plays I have read in a long time.  It's very topical, its challenging at times, its about relationships, long-term friendships, love, and wearable technology." said Thom Currie, artistic director, Magnus Theatre.

After taking a step away from the theatre during the pandemic Friday will certainly be an emotional say for Sparks as the play he and his wife envisioned together hits the stage, at the very theatre where they first met 24 years ago.

"Being a part of a production where I'm watching something blossom that has been in my head.  And then watching the women in the cast become the people that my wife and I imagined and more.  So its great to be back on the stage,” said Sparks.

And for those who purchase a ticket to the Magnus's final production of their 50th season.  A meet and greet with  the creative minds of Smarty Pants will follow the final performance on May 21.
