THUNDER BAY– A soaring demand for tickets to Magnus Theatre’s outdoor show has prompted the company to extend the run for an additional weekend of performances.

A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline was originally scheduled to run for 12 performances from Sept. 3 to Sept. 13, but the holdover means that the show will now run for five additional performances, from Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20.

“The show was sold out before it opened,” says Magnus Theatre Artistic Director Thom Currie. “The maximum capacity for each show is 100, so we hope adding these extra performances will provide an opportunity for folks who haven’t yet had a chance to see the production.”

A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, written by BC playwright Dean Regan, is set during a 1963 radio broadcast celebrating Patsy Cline’s rise to country music stardom in the 1950s and early 60s.

Audience reception has been overwhelmingly positive, says Currie.

“The local talent is incredible, and people are really enjoying the music, but it’s this singular experience of live theatre that people have really missed, and we’re so privileged to be able to offer this again here in Thunder Bay,” he says.

Tickets go on sale Sept. 9. Tickets are $80 for up to two seats in one physically distanced circle. Seats are expected to go fast and can be purchased online or by phoning the Box Office at 807.345.5552 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. In-person walk up sales are available from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday from the temporary Box Office outside Magnus Theatre.
