Part of Memorial Avenue and First Avenue were flooded Saturday after a water main burst.
The 16 inch water main broke early Saturday morning. By midday, water was gushing out of a sink hole caused by the break, flooding a large chunk of road at the intersection of Memorial Avenue and First Avenue. City lead hand Hank Siegers said they don’t know what caused the break but with so much pressure on the line, breaks do happen.
"You’ve got 80 to 100 pounds of pressure on this line…it’s one of the main feeder lines so there’s lot’s of pressure on it," Siegers said.
Crews shut down one South bound lane on Memorial while they fix the line and repair the road. Siegers said the work should be completed by 10 p.m. Saturday.
