THUNDER BAY - A man facing charges for an alleged shooting incident on the city’s south side will remain in custody.

A bail hearing was held for 25-year-old Robert Bannon on Friday.

Bannon is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of firearm without a licence, careless storage of a firearm, possession of firearm with knowledge its possession is unauthorized, reckless discharged of firearm, and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

The incident took place on May 1 when the Thunder Bay Police Service received reports of shots being fired at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Gore Street West.

Upon arrival, officers observed damage to a residential structure consistent with gunfire.

A warrant was issued for Bannon’s arrest in connection to the shooting on May 7 and he turned himself in at the Thunder Bay Police Service Balmoral headquarters on June 17.

The Crown did not consent to Bannon’s release and onus was on the defense to present a bail plan that would satisfy the court and public safety requirements.

Defense counsel Kate Brindley’s bail plan was denied by Justice of the Peace Denette Ellard based on secondary and tertiary grounds and Bannon was ordered to remain in custody.

His next court date will be on July 12 to be spoken to.
