Man and woman charged in Dryden toddler’s death

DRYDEN, Ont. - A man and woman are facing serious charges following an investigation into the 2017 death of a toddler in Dryden.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, 40-year-old William Walmsley and 31-year-old Rae Dawn Kushner, both of Dryden, were arrested and charged on Dec. 17 with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life.   

The charges relate to an incident on Feb 16, 2017 when officers with the Dryden Police Service were called to attend a residence regarding a child in medical distress.

A three-year-old boy was found and transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Dryden Police Service requested assistance from the OPP and the North West Region Crime unit opened an investigation and a post-mortem examination was conducted.

Walmsley and Kushner are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden on Jan. 28 to answer to the charges.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
