SIOUX LOOKOUT -- A high-speed all-terrain vehicle chase that led to a short armed standoff has result in the arrest of a 22-year-old Sioux Lookout man.
Manuel Smith has been charged with dangerous operation, flight from peace officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The suspect may also face additional charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Ontario Provincial Police say the incident took place on April 10, when police responded to a report of an ATV travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 664, east of Hudson, Ont.
The same ATV had been spotted trespassing in Lac Seul First Nation, which is under a community lockdown.
Police say they attempted to stop the ATV, but the driver fled. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Sanders Road West and the driver was located a short time later, and the vehicle was returned to its rightful owner.
Police allege the driver then brandished a weapon before leading them on a short foot patrol.
He was then apprehended and taken into custody.
OPP say if one is operating an ATV on a roadway, trail system or on Crown land, they are required to stop and identify if told to do so by police or a conservation officer.
Drivers must also adhere to a 50-kilometre-an-hour speed limit on highways with speed limits over 50 kilometres an hour, and 20 kilometers an hour on roads below 50 kilometres an hour.
