An unidentified man is in hospital with severe facial and hand injuries following what appears to be a machete attack at a Pearl Street address.

Thunder Bay Police Services has identified a 31-year-old man as their primary suspect, but have yet to bring him into custody, and did not name him.

TBPS said three males were drinking on Saturday at the residence in question when an argument broke out. The host escorted one of the men out of the building. Police said the ejected man forced his way back into the building and attacked the host with a machete.

Police say the man with the machete then tried to get back into the apartment through a window. When the suspect entered the apartment he also threatened the third man. Police say he was able to chase away the man with the machete by spraying him with a fire extinguisher.

Police found the machete at the scene.
