THUNDER BAY -- City police are looking for the man who tried to break into a north-side home with the homeowner’s own ladder Wednesday evening.
Police say the incident took place just before 11 p.m. in the 200 block of South High Street. Homeowners report being in bed when they heard a noise on the second floor of their home.
They checked the home and found a man leaving the yard, running down a nearby laneway.
When they checked the second floor, the homeowners found that the window had been opened and its screen removed. They also noticed a ladder at the window.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers checked the area but could not find the suspect. They did, however, the home’s garage was open. A ladder from the garage appears to have been used to gain entry to the open window.
Officers also found a knife at the base of the ladder.
The suspect is described as a being 16 to 18 years of age. He stands about five-feet-nine-inches tall with a medium build.
He wore a toque or hood that is grey or steel blue in colour.
