Man charged after stealing, crashing bike

THUNDER BAY -- City police have arrested a 28-year-old man for a number of charges.

The 28-year-old man was riding a bike on Mountdale Avenue just before 2 p.m. Wednesday when he failed to stop for a red light on Arthur Street and struck a motor vehicle destroying the bike and damaging the vehicle and then left the scene.

A witness spotted the male riding a bike down Arthur Street and alerted officers.

The man was stopped and officers learned that he had stolen a new bike from a local business and rode off.

The city police arrested the man and he was held in custody after being treated for minor injuries received in the accident.

The man was charged with possession of stolen property, obstruct police and breach of probation.

He was also charged with failing to stop for a red light, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident under the highway traffic act.
