THUNDER BAY - A man is facing charges after a verbal altercation escalated between two people.

Steven William Chapman, 25, appeared in Thunder Bay bail court and was formally read a charge of assault, breaking and entering, uttering threats and providing police with a false name after an incident on early Friday morning.

Police learned the accused became involved in a verbal argument with another man. When the argument began to escalate the victim went inside their apartment and the accused followed by forcing his way into the apartment.

The accused then threatened and assaulted the victim, police say.

Officers say during their investigation one of the individuals believed to be involved provided police with a false name.

Officers also determined this individual had been involved in an assault at the same address on early Thursday morning.

Chapman's next scheduled court date is June 1.
