Man charged with murder after Kasabonika Lake death

One man is dead and another faces a charged of second-degree murder after an altercation in Kasabonika Lake

(KASABONIKA LAKE, ON) – On October 19, 2016 at approximately 7:00am (CST) an officer with Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to a report of a disturbance outside a residence on Six Nations Road on Kasabonika Lake First Nation.

Police attended the scene. A 54-year-old male Kasabonika Lake First Nation resident identified as Alec Tom McKAY was transported to medical treatment and subsequently pronounced dead by medical staff.

A post mortem examination is scheduled to take place at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora on October 20, 2016.

A 30-year-old male identified as George Darren McKAY was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder contrary to section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. He is currently in custody and will appear in Kenora Ontario Court of Justice October 20, 2016.

Officers with Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North West Region Crime Unit under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy HEIDA of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
