A Fort Frances man has been fined $2,500 for illegally shooting a moose.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources reports that John Piotrowski pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting a cow moose. In addition to the fine, Piotrowski is banned from hunting in Ontario for a year.

The court heard that on Oct. 14, 2011, Piotrowski shot and killed a cow moose without a proper seal in the Cedar Narrows area, located north of Fort Frances.

An MNR conservation officer’s investigation revealed that Piotrowski had attached a calf tag to the adult moose.

Justice of the Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Fort Frances, on Feb. 10, 2012.
