A man was airlifted to hospital Tuesday after a backhoe flipped on its side in the outskirts of Thunder Bay.
Emergency crews were called to the scene just before noon on Koivu Road, off of Mapleward Road. A backhoe had tipped over. The equipment operator was transported first by a land ambulance, then transferred to an air ambulance, which landed on the lawn of a near-by residence.
Thunder Bay Police Service Const. Kerry Dunning says the man suffered serious, but non life-threatening injuries.
Dunning says the incident occurred on private property, where the man and his father were working.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
