THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police have laid several charges after a firearms incident last weekend in the Armstrong area.

OPP say a 22-year-old man was wounded in the abdomen by a bullet fired in a gravel pit off the Obonga Lake Road on May 26.

Three males were in the pit when one of them fired a rifle, causing a bullet to ricochet off an abandoned vehicle before striking the victim.

He was taken by ambulance to Thunder Bay hospital for treatment of what police described as a non-life-threatening injury.

A 21-year-old resident of Conmee Township faces charges of careless use of a firearm, using a firearm while committing an offence, and public mischief.

He's scheduled to appear in court in Armstrong in July.
