THUNDER BAY — A man was taken to hospital after an incident late Sunday near the Algoma Street bridge over McVicar Creek.
Firefighters, paramedics and police were all sent to the scene shortly before 6 pm.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue provided initial assessment and put a neck collar on the man before he was turned over to Superior North EMS paramedics.
He was conscious and was taken to hospital with what were described as musculoskeletal injuries.
A police spokesperson said although the initial call indicated the man had fallen from the bridge, he may have fallen on the ice while walking on or near the creek.
Fire officials have cautioned the public to avoid going on the ice after two recent incidents in which firefighters have performed rescues in the harbour.
NOTE: A previous version of this story stated the incident occurred near the Court Street bridge, whereas it actually occurred at the Algoma Street bridge
