Man on probation for child pornography charges breaches conditions

A Murillo man has been arrested for breach of probation in relation to child pornography charges.

A Murillo man has been arrested for breach of probation in relation to child pornography charges.

Thirty-two-year-old Tony Barnes was arrested Saturday after being spotted at the Canada Games Complex with two young boys, ages two and four, in a care-taking capacity, said Thunder Bay Police Service Const. Julie Tilbury.

The probation orders are from charges of possession and accessing child pornography in Winnipeg.

“His probation does indicate he’s not to be alone with children under the age of 18. As a result of the information we have, he was breaching those conditions and he has been charged,” Tilbury said.

Anyone with concerns about Barnes’ contact with children should call the police.

“We don’t know if this is the only time he’s been around young people,” said Tilbury. “We’re asking the public, if anyone has any concerns about this male or has information, that they give us a call so we can follow up and make sure all the young people in our community are safe.”

Barnes has been remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail and will appear in court May 1.

The investigation is ongoing
