Man pleads guilty to second-degree murder

THUNDER BAY – One of two brothers charged with the murder of 37-year-old Rusty James Russow pleaded guilty in a Thunder Bay Courtroom on Tuesday.

Harley Austin Loon and Travis Jacob Loon were both charged with first-degree murder after Russow’s body was found on Nov. 17, 2022 in an apartment on Pearl Street.

In November 2022, Thunder Bay police said they believe Russow was killed three days prior, on Nov. 14, 2022.

preliminary hearing took place in April 2024. 

On Tuesday, Harley Loon pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder but guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder.

The matter will return to court in late June. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Travis Loon is set to stand trial for first-degree murder beginning on June 2.

The allegation against Travis Loon has not been proven in court.
