Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry media release

A resident of Centreville, in Lennox and Addington County, has been fined $2,500 for a moose hunting offence.

Doug Walker pleaded guilty to shooting a bull moose without a licence.

Court heard that on September 17, 2016, conservation officers responded to a call that Walker had shot a bull moose on the Kiwi Road north of Sioux Lookout. He did not have a tag for a bull moose. The investigation revealed that Walker shot the bull moose by mistake but delayed calling the ministry to report the incident while he unsuccessfully searched for a tag.

Justice of the Peace Danalyn MacKinnon heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Sioux Lookout, on March 16, 2017.

The ministry reminds the public that hunters must possess the proper licence and validation tag when hunting for moose in Ontario.
