DRYDEN, Ont. — Police in Dryden remained patient as they tried to bring about a safe conclusion to a tense situation in the downtown area Monday.
In the early afternoon, officers responded to a complaint of a disturbance in a residence.
They learned a 23-year-old man had barricaded himself in his suite and was causing extensive damage to the premises.
The Dryden Police Service said in a statement that "due to the nature of the weapons the subject had in his possession" and his unwillingness to comply with police, they treated the situation as an armed and barricaded subject.
Police did not disclose the kind of weapons the man had.
The OPP Emergency Response Team was called in to assist, and took the man into custody about seven and a half hours after the incident began.
No one was injured.
