THUNDER BAY – Dumping his camper trailer’s septic tanks onto Crown land west of Thunder Bay will cost a Manitoba man.

The man pleaded guilty to unlawfully depositing a material, substance or thing on Crown land and was fined $2,000 and received a one-year ban from camping on Ontario Crown land.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers received a tip on Aug. 26, 2017 that waste had been dumped on land on East Nelson Lake Road. The investigation determined that the man and his family had been camping at the Nelson Lake public camping area site for two weeks and he emptied the contents of the trailer’s septic holding tanks onto the south side of the road upon leaving.

The case was heard in a Thunder Bay court last month.

Ministry officials said it is illegal to dump anything on Crown land without authorization and that sewage or greywater must be disposed of at an approved facility.
