Manitouwadge woman dies in highway collision

MANITOUWADGE – A 66-year-old woman was killed Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 614 south of Manitouwadge.

OPP officers from the Manitouwadge and Marathon detachments responded to a two-vehicle collision Friday shortly after 5 p.m. on Highway 614.

Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene and determined that a Dodge Ram pickup was travelling northbound on Highway 614 and impacted with a Nissan pickup that was traveling southbound. 

The driver of the Nissan, a 66-year-old woman identified as Louisette Massicotte from Manitouwadge was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lone occupant of the other vehicle was transported from the scene by EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 614 was closed for approximately 10.5 hours.

A postmortem is scheduled for Monday at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Thunder Bay.

Manitouwadge OPP officers, Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and an OPP Reconstructionist and a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator attended the scene and the circumstances of the collision are being investigated.
