MARATHON – The Marathon Sno-Kickers Snowmobile Club is excited for the upcoming snowmobiling season and trail permits are available for purchase now.

“I think everyone’s pretty excited and hoping for snow and a good start to the season, they’re seeing that trail prep is coming along well and we’ve had lots of people from outside the region calling and saying that they’re coming up this year, so we’re hoping that that’s going to work out,” said Craig Colbourne of the Marathon Sno-Kickers Snowmobile Club,

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and construction of the East-West Tie transmission line, many regulations were put in place that restricted snowmobile riders from passing district lines while using the trails.

The restrictions caused a loss in trail passes being bought by tourists and out of district riders, but, the Marathon Sno-Kickers were surprised to see it evened out by an influx of local residents buying passes who normally travelled out of district for winter activities.

Turning toward the future, the Marathon Sno-Kickers hope to see more riders come to use the trails and continue to work to improve their trails, bridges and equipment.

“We’re open here in Marathon for business and we sell ourselves as the gateway to Northeastern Ontario as there's no snowmobile trail between Thunder Bay and Marathon, so we’d like the folks from Thunder Bay and beyond to trailer up to Marathon and see what we have to offer,” said Colbourne.
