THUNDER BAY – City police say a masked man attempted to rob a Current River food store, but fled empty-handed, despite allegedly brandishing a handgun.

In a release issued on Monday, police say the suspect, described as a white male, standing 5-foot-9 with a thin build, entered Skaf’s Just Basics on Hodder Avenue at about 10:24 p.m. on Sunday night, showed a gun and demanded money.

Police say he was wearing tan-coloured lace-up high-top shoes or hiking boots, grey jogging pants, a black puffy-style winter jacket and a red trapper-style hat with fur trim.

No one was injured in the late-night incident.

Police ask anyone with information to phone them at 684-1200.
