Chiefs with the Matawa First Nations say they are withdrawing their support of all development efforts in the Ring of Fire.
The move comes following the announcement that the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency will proceed with a comprehensive environmental assessment study.
But that move runs contrary to First Nations wishes.
They've been pushing for a joint governmental-First Nations review panel to study environmental concerns.
The Matawa Chiefs say this latest move is a clear violation of senior government’s responsibility to consult and accommodate First Nations.
The Chiefs have called a news conference for Friday to fully detail their concerns.
