THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue quickly extinguished a mattress fire Wednesday afternoon at an Academy Drive apartment complex.
Firefighters said the call came in about 12:30 p.m. and an internal alarm was sounded within the building, alerting residence who evacuated their units.
After putting out the fire, crews worked to remove smoke from the building, blaming the cause of the small blaze on carelessly discarded smoking materials.
No injuries were sustained because of the fire, with smoke damage contained to a single unit.
Some contents of the apartment in question suffered fire damage and the building’s occupants were allowed to return to their units shortly afterward.
