THUNDER BAY -- It's been two weeks since a commitment to get vehicles back on the James Street Swing Bridge was made.
Mayor Keith Hobbs said while there was a deadline for Friday, the terms of reference with CN was only signed last week and so it will be a few more days before a short-term solution is reached.
The mayor is optimistic an answer will come next week. But there are viable solutions on the table.
"I think we're on the same page, our engineers and their consultants," he said.
Hobbs didn't want to go into too much detail about what the solution might be but said increased weight restrictions could be an option.
"You might not see big trucks being able to access the bridge," he said
The bridge has been closed to vehicle traffic since it caught fire last October. Progress is moving too slowly for Hobbs but he understands that safety has to be the top priority.
"We have to get it right and safety is the main concern," he said.
