MOOSE JAW, Sask – Team Northern Ontario rebounded Wednesday night after a tough loss earlier in the day to Rachel Homan's Ontario's squad.

Skip Krista McCarville of the Fort William Curling Club scored a point in the 11th end to squeak out a 7-6 victory over Corryn Brown of British Columbia.

The win came on the heels of a 9-4 loss to Homan (8-1), who went on to hand Chelsea Carey's Team Canada an 8-4 loss in the evening draw.

McCarville, whose team includes lead Jen Gates, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly, sits at 6-3 after Day 1 of championship round play, good for solo fourth in the standings.

Team Northern Ontario struck first, with a deuce in the second, but Brown bounced back with two of her own in the third.

McCarville grabbed a 3-2 lead in the fourth and after the two teams blanked the fifth, Brown tied it again in the sixth. They traded points in the seventh and eighth, McCarville jumping in front by two in the ninth – only to have Brown follow suit and force extra ends.

Team British Columbia, who had to win a tiebreaker over Nova Scotia earlier in the day to advance to the championship round, fell to 4-5, doubled 8-4 by Kerri Einarson's 8-1 Manitoba rink in the afternoon draw.

McCarville faces Prince Edward Island's Suzanne Birt and Jennifer Jones' wild-card team on Friday to wrap up round-robin play.

A win over PEI would clinch a spot in at least a tiebreaker for the team from Thunder Bay and Sudbury, while a win over PEI and a loss by Saskatchewan would earn them a spot in the playoffs. The top four teams advance.
