MOOSE JAW – Krista McCarville’s chances to move on to the championship round at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts just got a lot more daunting.

The Northern Ontario representatives fell apart against previously winless Nunavut in their only match of the day on Tuesday, giving up steals in the eighth, ninth and 10th ends to fall 6-5 and drop to 3-2.

McCarville had a draw to the four-foot for a point in the ninth and came up short, then had a similar shot to win the match in the 10th, only to slide to the back 12-foot and surrender the match.

The defeat lands McCarville, lead Jen Gates, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly into a three-way tie for third place in the Pool A standings, with Team Canada and Team Alberta.

Only the top four teams advance.

McCarville led 5-1 after five ends, stealing a pair in the fifth to open up a four-point lead.

The Thunder Bay and Sudbury foursome will take on Alberta’s Laura Walker in the morning draw on Wednesday and wraps up pool play in the evening draw against Robyn Silvernagle’s Saskatchewan rink.
