THUNDER BAY – Krista McCarville is inching toward a playoff berth at the 2021 Tim Hortons Curling Trials in Saskatoon, Sask.

The 39-year-old Thunder Bay skip led her team to an 8-7 win over Kelsey Rocque on Thursday, scoring one in the 10th end to secure the victory, and improved to 4-3 at the Olympic qualifier.

For the moment McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala and third Kendra Lilly are alone in third place, though a pair of skips – Kerri Einarson and Casey Scheidegger – are half a game back at 3-3.

McCarville wraps up round-robin play on Thursday night against Edmonton’s Laura Walker (2-4). A win, combined with losses by Scheidegger and Einarson, would earn the Northern Ontario team one of three playoff spots.

In other play, Tracy Fleury locked up a playoff spot with an 11-7 win over Walker, upping her record to a perfect 6-0.

Rachel Homan (2-4) kept her slim playoff hopes alive with a 7-5 win over Jennifer Jones (5-2), who has clinched no less than a tiebreaker.

Scheidegger evened her record at 3-3 with a 7-6 win over Jacqueline Harrison (2-4).
