The debate over trucks on Dawson Road continues.

McIntyre Ward Coun. Trevor Giertuga met with representatives from the trucking industry this week over his call for a ban on transport truck traffic on the route.

Giertuga said it's important to hear both sides of the story. But despite everyone's best efforts, Giertuga said at the end of the meeting the two sides had to agree to disagree.

Earlier this year a resolution was passed by council calling for a length restriction on vehicles travelling the municipal portion of the road.

But that move didn't sit well with the Ministry of Transportation or the trucking industry.

More recently, a proposal to lower speeds and double the fines for those caught speeding was shot down.

Giertuga said those initiatives would have only punished residents in the area.

Council and residents in Oliver Paipoonge have also objected to the plan to divert big trucks to the Shabaqua Extension.

The matter will be dealt with by a committee of council in July.
