THUNDER BAY — Contrary to a published report Monday, a spokesperson for the McKellar Place retirement home in Thunder Bay says the facility is "absolutely not being sold."

A Tbnewswatch story quoted a real estate representative as saying it was part of a package of properties acquired by developer Ahsanul Habib that will be sold as a result of Habib's decision to retire due to health reasons.

However, Chris Treftlin, operational consultant for McKellar Place, said the retirement facility is "not on the market."

Treftlin, whose company Shine At Home was contracted to oversee the management and daily operations of McKellar Place at the beginning of the year, told Tbnewswatch late Monday that it is "in the process of recovering financially from years of poor performance."

He said McKellar Place has added 16 new residents since January, is due to take in additional tenants, and is now "an active, vibrant retirement home that is a great place to live."

The facility currently has close to 90 residents.

Jack Mallon of Royal LePage issued an apology Tuesday for the misleading information about McKellar Place.

"It hasn't been considered for sale because it's a Habib property that's running quite well, so that was a misunderstanding on my part."

Mallon is handling the marketing of four other Habib properties including the former Dawson Court, the former FWCI, an apartment building on Victoria Avenue and the Royal Edward Arms.
