Andrew Foulds says he's been lucky in life, and he owes it to the community to make sure more people have the same opportunities.

A stong believer in public service, the two-time Current River  Ward councillor said he's running again to make sure people he sees struggling have better opportunities for everything from recreation to education.

"I'm driven by making Thunder Bay more sustainable, more prosperous and more socially just. I know that that is a big job but I won't stop until the job is done," the 42-year-old father of three said.

Infrastructure is a big challenge for the ward and the city. Thunder Bay needs a 21st-century vision to make sure along with basic infrastructure, the city is taking climate change, sustainability and beautification into account.

It allows needs to meet accessibility needs so that all modes of transportation can use the infrastructure the city builds.

That vision also needs to include youth. Foulds said supporting youth services and facilities will go a long way to help the city.

"If I'm privileged enough to be reelected I will make it my mandate to fight for youth and youth services and a youth centre."

It's the right thing to do to make sure that the city's future, including his own children, is in good hands.

"I want to make sure what I leave behind is something good for them," he said.

Although frustrated with a delayed and deferred tender process for work at Boulevard lake, Foulds said he's proud that he's been fighting to see that the work is going to get done.

"There is money in the budget for (the dam) restoration next year. There is money in the budget already for dredging Boulevard Lake."

Foulds said he supports the city's proposed event centre 100 per cent as long as there is federal and provincial funding available. He wants to see the city continue its due diligence.

"And make sure that if the province and the feds come to the table, what we build is right for this community," he said.
