KENORA, Ont. – Kenora MP Eric Melillo will join the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

He said food security, Internet access, ending boil-water advisories and transportation are the issues he wants to make progress on during this session of Parliament.

The 22-year-old Conservative representative last month was named shadow minister for Northern Affairs and FedNor.

Melillo was given the responsibility by new Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole and said he’s excited to jump into the role.

“With a committed Shadow Cabinet team and a strong presence on Committee, we’re in a very good position to fight for Northern and Indigenous communities,” Melillo said, adding it’s an issue that hits close to home.

“As a Northern Ontario MP who represents 42 First Nation communities, getting results for Northern and Indigenous Canadians has always been top of mind.”

Previously Melillo served on the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
