THUNDER BAY – Residents will gather in Thunder Bay's south end on Wednesday for a memorial service honouring lives lost over the past year within the city's homeless and vulnerably housed community.

The memorial, organized by Hospice Northwest, will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Paterson Park.

Elder Beatrice Twance-Hynes will lead the service, with assistance from Ron Kanuski and his traditional drum Minik Anangoog Deweigan.

"This annual event is designed to honour the individuals who have died, as well as to recognize the grief of their friends and loved ones and the staff at the various local organizations who have supported them," said Hospice Northwest in a statement. "It is our hope that this event will help with the grieving process for those affected by these losses."

The organization has partnered with the City of Thunder Bay to make bus vouchers available at local shelters and other agencies to help people access the memorial service. For more information, please contact Hospice Northwest.
