Thunder Bay's HAGI Transit is benefitting from a province-wide purchasing strategy.

The Ontario transit body Metrolinx has purchased 27 new accessible buses in a joint procurement partnership involving 11 communities.

Three of those buses are for HAGI.

HAGI Transit Manager Al Buchan says the mass purchase enabled a cost savings of about 10 per cent, with each accessible bus costing about $85,000.

Officials with Metrolinx say this is the first collaboration of its kind for specialized vehicles in Ontario.
