IGNACE, Ont. – A Cessna 172 aircraft has crashed on the Ignace Municipal Airport grounds.

The lone occupant of the plane was found outside of the plane and treated for minor injuries at hospital, according to an OPP release.

The Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday it is still gathering information about the incident, but it released some details about what's been learned so far.

A spokesperson said the pilot of the aircraft had difficulty starting the engine, so he attempted to do so by turning the propeller by hand.

The engine fired up and the plane accelerated before the pilot could get back on board.

He fell to the ground as the aircraft crossed the runway, broke through a fence and caught fire.
