MNR battles 154th fire of the season

MNR firefighters battled a fire Wednesday night in the Surprise Lake area. The fire was centered on Dog Lake Road, about half a kilometre south of Surprise Lake.

The fire was centered on Dog Lake Road, about half a kilometre south of Surprise Lake. MNR officials say no property was threatened but two water bombers, three Fire Ranger crews and the Lappe Fire Department all responded to the call. The blaze grew to about three hectares in size before being brought under control.

There have now been a total of 154fires across the northwest this year, consuming 553 hectares. The fire hazard remains in the high to extreme range.
