With 25 new fire starts in the Northwest region Monday, MNR fire crews are still in need of isolated precipitation to bring the blazes under control.

The majority of Monday’s fires were started by 15,000 lightning strikes that were accompanied by little rain. This leaves the region’s fire hazard at high to extreme and the public is urged to be careful when handling outdoor fires.

The long-term forecast will be challenging for crews with steady warm weather expected.

However, Wednesday should bring relief with thunderstorms coming from the west and some evening rain expected in the east.

There are still travel restrictions, which took effect July 28, on portions of Pipestone River Park and on the Mussel White Mine Road north of Pickle Lake.
