A Ministry of Natural Resources worker was airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre after she was attacked by a bear on Tuesday.
A ministry spokeswoman, who was unable to provide the victim’s exact condition, citing privacy legislation, confirmed the attack.
“We had a crew working, doing some wildlife assessment near Wabikon Lake. That’s up the Armstrong Highway,” Kathryn Lyzun said on Wednesday.
“While they were working a bear approached them and did attack one female worker. She was airlifted to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and she is currently there recovering.”
Lyzun said all ministry staff working in the field are given black bear awareness training.
The training may have paid off.
“She was attacked by the bear, but other crew members that were there were able to get the bear away from her.”
